A - Andromeda and to Arlee... Hail to the Chief!!

Lexa Doig [Andromeda Ascendant]
Andromeda (formally titled Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda) is a Canadian/American science fiction television series, based on unused material by Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry (1921-91), developed by Robert Hewitt Wolfe, and produced by Roddenberry's widow, Majel Barrett (1932-2008).  It starred Kevin Sorbo as High Guard Captain Dylan Hunt. The series premiered on October 2, 2000 and ended on May 13, 2005.

I am going to do my challenge this year and make it simple, television shows that I loved and these shows cancelled before I think they were ready. What are your thoughts, did you watch this show... do you miss it and why? And as a bonus a song from a band/group that fits with the letter and may not have anything to do with the show above.

Also wanted to send a great message, while you all are here today... I wanted to thank my great friend Arlee Bird of "Tossing It Out" a man of many things... and the creator of the "A to Z Challenge". Without his help and guidance to me and all of his followers... we might not be here today. I thank you... you are the man, period!

MAYBE A FEW SURPRISES?

  2. Used to love Andromeda. I found it to have a such a rich background and thought it was pretty original in a lot of way.

    Great pick!

  3. I'm in the UK and have never heard of this series but it sounds like just the sort of thing my daughter would love. I'm looking forward to hearing too about the shows you feel we're cancelled before they were ready.
I'm business blogging (so probably in an A-Z category of my own!) over at gloucestershirewebdesigns.co.uk
Enjoy the rest of the month!

  4. Cool song choice... very cinematic. Didn't watch Andromeda but I look forward to hearing your views on other TV series that had the plug pulled before their time.

  11. I saw a couple of these shows back when it was on - I have always liked Kevin Sorbo - this is a show I plan to catch up on one of these days. Terrific theme! Can't wait to see what other shows met their end too early!

  14. Oh! So excited! Don't know how we missed this show, but we'll get right on it! We're about done with Warehouse 13 (tears up in sorrow) and are still mourning the end of Eureka...and of course will never forgive them for Firefly...Great theme!

  20. I loved the first two seasons of ANDROMEDA but I had to buy them by DVD, and it got too expensive for my limited budget. I hate that it ended so soon. Great idea for a challenge, Roland

  25. One show that I miss that just sort of "poofed" away was "Hero." I don't recall that is was ever fully wrapped up, but maybe I missed the series finale.

  26. I remember hearing about the show but I don't believe I ever watched it. Hot crew though. :)

That song was very nice but the video was stunning. Thanks for sharing it.

  27. The Andromeda I know is in Greek Mythology...how interesting to know she was a Canadian/American TV Show. Sorry to have missed it, as well as the the Zombie Culture until recently when my 3yr. old grandson Zombie walked up and bit me on the leg and said, "Now you are NanaZombie".

However, I do remember your Blog and Hosting from AtoZ 2012. Looking forward to more Zombie Culture now that I am a NanaZombie.

  30. My husband and I definitely were fans of Andromeda--and I'm a Herc and Xena, Kevin Sorbo fan from way back.

    Also enjoyed your music video!

    Happy Day 1 A to Z.

  31. Huge fan of Andromeda. So glad to see this pop up in the Challenge!

  32. Aw shucks. You guys are gonna start inflating my ego so much that at Thanksgiving you'll pulling me at the end of a tether in the Macy's parade.

Flash Forward was a TV show that really irked me when they pulled it off the air. One of the few recent shows that I've been really into.

  33. There was a show that tried hard to be mor than the sum of it's parts. I have watched and enjoyed much of it.

  34. I never did catch that show when it was running. Not a big Kevin Sorbo fan though. :)

  43. I never got into Andromeda but it's one of those shows on my netflix queue (yeah I'm old fashioned I haven't gone streaming yet!).

Looking forward to more shows! Oh nostalgia!

  44. Hmm… Oct 2/00 to May 13/05, yup, I was in cold storage…‘cause I missed this puppy!

And that surprises me cause there’s “Canadian” in there somewhere and I try to support home grown stuff! *evil wink*

My guess...Serenity?! Now, go easy on my if I’m wrong...I’m old and my brain cells have all but gone South. I thought they’d be back after the winter, but I got a postcard...it’s not good! :P

  45. I never watched this, but I think hubby did. 4 1/2 years of a show is a lot of unused material left over! Roddenberry had quite the mind. Even a non-Trekkie has to admit that.

  48. I'd never watched Andromeda, and never knew it was based on Star Trek leftovers. But it is frustrating when you get into a show only to learn it's been cancelled!

  52. Ohhh, so close...I thought you were going for the Andromeda Strain! I loved that movie. Anyway, I watched a few episodes of this series but never got into it in a Star Trek kind of way.

Great theme, Jeremy. Looking forward this daily.

  54. Great theme for the Challenge. I loved Andromeda and really hated how it ended. It was so incomplete and left the air long before its time. There should have been so many more adventures with Dylan, Rev, Harper, Beka, Trance, Tyr and Rhade.

  55. Jeremy--LOVE the theme that you are going with. Very cool. Way too many awesome shows are cancelled before their time, while crap like Honey Boo Boo (which I've never had the misfortune to see, but have heard of) somehow gets a following. I can't figure it out!!

Can't wait to see the other shows you'll be featuring. BTW, this is Tamara from One Magic Bean Buyer. I'm one of your loyal minions. :) But I switched blogs, and I'm working with my friend and CP partner, Karen. (Hence my comment name being under Karen Tamara)

  56. Good theme to pick and a wonderful choice to use. I loved Andromeda and not because Kevin Sorbo (major hunk to drool over) starred in it. Sadly, I think it was ended before its time. They could have squeezed out another season to tie up all the story lines before calling it quits.

I'm looking forward to seeing what other shows you'll be featuring this year.

  57. I haven't seen this show but it sounds great, and I admit to being a Kevin Sorbo fan ;)
