Planes, Trains & Automobiles [1987]... Things You Might Not Know?

Back In Baby's Arms Again!

What was the name of the motel Neal and Del stayed at in Wichita, Kansas?
- Braidwood Inn. The Braidwood Inn was run by Del's old friend Gus, played by Charles Tyner. It was at the motel that one of the movies funniest scenes takes place. Neal and Del not only have to share a room, but share a bed as well. The morning after, they wake up holding each other while "Back in Baby's Arms" plays on the movie's soundtrack.

To what does Neal compare spending the night with Del?
- A date with a chatty Cathy doll. Neal said, "I expect a string to come out of your chest...only you'd be the one pulling it!"

Del is a salesman for what company?
- American Light & Fixture. Shower ring curtain division.

What star makes a non speaking cameo at the beginning of the movie?
- Kevin Bacon. Credited as Taxi Racer in the movie, Bacon races Steve Martin as they run down opposite sides of the street, each trying to beat the other to an available cab. Martin had the race won, but falls over a large trunk that turns out to belong to John Candy's character.

While riding on the bus to St. Louis, Del leads the passengers in a sing-a-long of what television show's theme song?
- The Flintstones. Del saves the day with this song when the passengers don't like Neal's idea to sing "Three Coins in a Fountain".

What team does Neal ask Del about after their 'encounter' in bed?
- Bears. Those aren't pillows!

I love this film, it makes travel less... well less complicated!
Happy Friday...

Some Kind of Wonderful [1987]... Things You Might Not Know?

Pain is in Our Eyes!

Lea Thompson originally turned down the lead when she was approached by Howard Deutch. She then accepted the role after Howard the Duck flopped, and Howard Deutch again asked her to play the role of Amanda Jones.

Elias Koteas was discovered by John Hughes auditioning for another one of his films and it was at his suggestion that he would be cast in the role of Duncan.

The car that Watts drives in the movie is a very dilapidated mini cooper modified for driving in America. Between 1960 and 1967 only 10,000 were sold in the U.S. and then discontinued. Although they are very popular now, they were quite alien and unknown to most of the American public in 1987.

Several years before this movie was filmed, Eric Stoltz had been the original choice to play Marty McFly in Back to the Future, and he had even shot five weeks' worth of footage as Marty before he was replaced by Michael J. Fox. Lea Thompson, who plays one of Stoltz's love interests in Some Kind of Wonderful, played his would-be character's mother in Back to the Future.

In an earlier version of the script, Keith proposes to Susan (Watts' first name) at the end (August 1986 script).

When Martha Coolidge was hired to direct, she cast 'Kim Delaney' as Amanda Jones and Kyle MacLachlan as Hardy Jenns. When Coolidge dropped out before filming was to begin and Howard Deutch replaced her, he replaced Delaney with Lea Thompson (after Eric Stoltz suggested her for the role) and replaced MacLachlan with Craig Sheffer.

The role of Keith Nelson was written with Eric Stoltz in mind.

I was this guy... wait I was Watts too...

Ferris Bueller's Day Off [1986]... Things You Might Not Know?

Just, Trust Me!

In an early draft of the script Ferris had two additional younger siblings and Jeanne was to be the middle child.

A number of key moments in the movie were created in the editing room: Jeannie kicking Roonie three times in the face (when there was in fact only one kick filmed); Ferris and Sloane's kiss in front of Roonie was originally just a brief kiss, but was later edited into the long kiss seen on film.

The Parade sequence (Twist and Shout scene) was filmed during the Von Steuben Day Parade. An annual event in the Chicagoland area.

Mia Sara says that Matthew Broderick actually tickled her feet and knees to get her to laugh naturally in the taxicab scene.

Most of the license plates are all abbreviations for titles of films by John Hughes. Katie's = VCTN (National Lampoon's Vacation); Jeannie's = TBC (The Breakfast Club); Tom's = MMOM (Mr. Mom); Rooney's = 4FBDO (Ferris Bueller's Day Off). The exception is Cameron's Ferrari (seen when Ferris first pulls out of the garage), the license plate of which reads NRVOUS.

Rob Lowe, John Cusack, Jim Carrey, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr. and Michael J. Fox were all considered for the role of Ferris Bueller.

The French restaurant Bueller crashes is "Chez Quis" which is a pun, as said aloud it would be "Shakeys", the pizza chain. "Chez Qui" means 'the house of whom' in French.

Wanted a sequel to this, maybe he has a child with Sloane... and that child takes a day off?

Sixteen Candles [1984]... Things You Might Not Know?

Hands Above The Waistline!

The license plate on Jake's car reads "21850", which is director John Hughes's birthday (2/18/50).

When Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall first met, they did not get along at all. Director John Hughes took them shopping at a music store and they discovered they had similar musical tastes and eventually got along.

The cake at the end of the movie is actually made of cardboard.

Both Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall were 16 years old upon release of Sixteen Candles.

The movie's line "Can I borrow your underpants for ten minutes?" was voted as the #86 of "The 100 Greatest Movie Lines" by Premiere in 2007.

The character of Long Duk Dong was supposed to be a teenager but Gedde Watanabe, who portrayed him, was 28 years old at the time this was filmed.

Other than Anthony Michael Hall, John Kapelos is the only actor to appear in all three of Hughes teen films that were under contract with Universal. In Weird Science he can been seen at the table in the bar. In The Breakfast Club, he serves as the janitor. In Sixteen Candles, he stars as Sam's future brother-in-law.

So what is your favorite part of this film?

The Breakfast Club [1985]... Things You Might Not Know?

To The Head...

The song which Judd Nelson hums the guitar riff to at the beginning of the movie is the opening tune to "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream.

The joke that Bender tells but never finishes (while crawling through the ceiling) actually has no punchline. According to Judd Nelson, he ad-libbed the line. Originally, he was supposed to tell a joke that would end when he came back into the library and said, "Forgot my pencil", but no one could come up with a joke for that punchline.

The license plate on Brian's mother's car is EMC 2. The license plate on Andrew's father's car is OHIOST.

Nicolas Cage was originally considered for the role of John Bender but the production couldn't afford his salary at the time. John Cusack was originally cast as John Bender, but John Hughes decided to replace him with Judd Nelson before shooting began.

The dandruff that Allison shakes onto her penciled drawing for snow was achieved by sprinkling Parmesan cheese.

Judd Nelson made up many of the terms used in the movie, including 'Neo-Maxi Zoomdweebie'.

What they ate for lunch: Andy (Andrew): a bag of chips, chocolate cookies, three sandwiches, milk, a banana and an apple. Claire: sushi (rice, raw fish and seaweed). Allison: a sandwich with Pixie Stix and Cap'n Crunch cereal. John: nothing. Brian: soup, sandwich with peanut butter and jam and apple juice.

Just a few things, maybe you some more... Happy 80's week!

Night Of The Demons: Remake and Why Remakes Suck?

Night Of The Demons
Maddie Curtis and her friends Lily and Suzanne are ready for a great Halloweeen night. They're going to a party thrown by their friend Angela at the notorious Broussard Mansion in New Orleans. Over eighty years ago, six people disappeared from the mansion without a trace - and the owner, Evangeline Broussard, hung herself. The dark history only serves to enhance Broussard Mansion's appeal on Halloween. At the decadent, out-of-control party, Maddie and Lily run into their exes, Colin and Dex, while Suzanne parties it up. Good times end, however, when the police bust up the party. After everyone leaves, the gang soon discover a horrible secret... that supernatural forces are at work at the Mansion, and that there may be more to the tale of Evangeline Broussard than anyone knew.... Just imagine how great this is going to be, with Edward Furlong...

With Hollywood stealing from movies from the 1980's cause apparently enough time has passed to remake every damn movie that was successful or a little successful. I am crying that they are making a new version of one of my favorites "Robocop", the madness has to stop! I pray to the Heavens that they never feel the need to touch my Rock-n-Roll Fable... Streets of Fire... it has everything and then Diane Lane!

So what are you doing for the weekend, seeing any dumb movies... wait you won't know they are dumb until you see them... Lets rephrase that... anyone seeing a movies this weekend?

John Hughes (1950 - 2009) - Don't You Forget About Him...

I had the chance to meet him on the set of "Curley Sue" in between filming and it was a cool two second handshake... something I always say... I was there... he will be always remembered as a teenager...

What was your favorite film, films just aren't the same without his sense of what it was like to be young. How many of you got a chance to see every film in a movie theater or own many of the films. One of my favorites is below, well at least one of the songs that appeared in the film?

Nutter Sandwich! and Some Picklers...

So here it is Friday, what you doing to this weekend I am planning to make a trip to the city of Chicago for it's annual Zombie Walk. I will be taking photos I hope, I have not gone for a few years due to the crazy commitments I carry. I have been using the word "Nutter", "Nut" or "Ball-Nut" Sandwich all week, not really sure why... it just sounds funny.

I found myself watching all of the "Alien" films this week, mostly cause I wanted to get excited to see the prequel "Prometheus" and I have not got the fever for it yet... though something is coming out of my stomach. Also been enjoying all the film scores to all of them, you should listen to them too... go ahead find them. I am also feeling the 1980's vibe, so I have been pondering the cool things and what would have made the 1970's a little better... I want more... more... more.

Have a Nutter-Day!

WTF Wednesday...and Guest or My Plus One

Poor Liz Taylor, she would be so mad...
Who thought this was going to be a good idea... Lohan... can I introduce you to acting and a paper bag, I know that is cruel. She was a talented actress one time, I am not sure why we even care what she is doing now.. or why I am still writing on her.

Second, Don Rickles is being targeted by the media for saying something about President Obama being a janitor, who cares... the media was waiting for a response from the White House. I say it again, who cares...when did we become such a baby "wah wah" society?
Third, I wanted to introduce a new read that I find myself being drawn to, to a site run by Aubree @ "Akashic Aisles: The Basement View"... I am not a 100% sure what is going on, but there is a lot of things being said. So stop over and say hello at the very least tell 'em the Retro-Zombie sent you.
Lastly what "Arrreee" you doing... you pirates is something you are doing that you would like to tell me outside like going to the dentist or getting a prostate exam.

GI Joe: Retaliation - Update/Spoilers

GO SLOW... I Mean Joe!
Old news I am sure, but they decided to move back this film to next year... now I say just pull the band-aid off, it will hurt less now then later. So Adrianne Palicki who couldn't pull off being "Wonder Woman" is going to pull off "Lady Jaye"... Willis is going to play "Joe Colton" the real American Hero... Dwayne Johnson is "Roadblock" and is most likely going to steal the movie away from Tatum "Duke"... I have one thing to say about this, this is going to be total junk kicker. I watched... tried to watch the first film a few times and just got sleepy, not that it wasn't good... just not great. I can pump my chest for two-hours too, I just don't make a few million dollars doing it. After this debacle I am starting to feel like Fantastic Four II: Rise of the Silver Surfer... which with that title could have been turned into the first Marvel Porn Movie!... Or at very least a movie for Swingers, just look at these stills from the movie... look closely... Awwe Yeah, you see it.

Happy Monday!

Retro-Zombie: Sound-Staged and More...

A few cool things going on first over at "Howlin' Wolf" I have a great interview with "Bobby Johnston" composer of his latest score "Mother's Day". Second I have become a representative of "Neatorama" online store, which means if you choose to buy something pick from my links over to the right. You buy, I get a little something... something.

Lastly I have been working on the next book "Retro-Zombie: Sound-Staged", which is all art that I have put together with hopes it will be complete by the end of June. Originally I planed to write the book like the last one, but it got so darn depressing... maybe that is why I was angry. So I scrapped that and went for the crazy left side of my brain... it's weird I tell you.

Anyone want to be my "Test Subjects" on this one let me know by email, just put the title in the header. That's correct just like the previous book "Retro-Zombie: Art and Words", it's my last book of art/design...ever, yes I said ever. In the next week deadline to get a look will be June 15th, so I think there will be 10 slots open... So hurry!

So Happy Friday!

This guy, this is the guy I hate... he does everything... Johnny Depp is the coolest guy in Movies in the last few years and now he sings, gets awards, makes my wife swoon and I want to just sock 'em in the nose. Now of course he can change my mind by sending my over something from any of the pirates films... and I can make the hate to a how-do-you-do.

Zombie Mount Rushmore - Letter and Key Holder

Zombie Rock!
The name says it all, not to be confused with any other Rushmore... unless someone says "MORE RUSH"... with my hands in the air. Neatorama makes yet another cool item "Zombie Mount Rushmore", this one I have for my mail... the mail lady laughed and was concerned someone might want to take it. I brought it back into the house, so it will be mine only.

Upper Cut!
Tomorrow my complete hate for an actor, but in the mean time JCVD... will punch you out! Could this guy get any cooler, he gets older he gets cooler. I get older... I look older, I feel older...

When that Shark Bites...

Shark Nut 3D
I don't get it when they [being movie companies] give backing to morons [writers/directors/etc.] to stupid ideas [Shark Night] that this film was. Nothing bothers me more when they spend more time making a awful music video at the end of the credits, which only proves that things bite... and bite big time. I read the reviews and I weeded past the trailer with a smile... only to find the movie used for a few bucks. I wanted to see for myself... and it was still and my biggest problem, "why the hell do people who don't like each other, ever want to hang out for the weekend". waddle the script... know there is a pg-13 rating... no nudity except some side boob and man butt... and the obvious creepy backwoods whack-a-dos. Now add some salt water sharks, in a salt water lake... and the stupid eye for an eye mental armchair fight... Hey maybe we should go right where the sharks are or maybe go left where the sharks are... maybe lets climb into the boat with the backwoods whack-a-dos... even after they made references that they want to jump you.

Kill me... I hope there is a sequel... just so I know.

Alexandria Daddario and a Tentacle at Your Door!

It's All About The Eyes!
I really have found my new movie girl "Alexandria Daddario" and from out of no where, there she is.... from " Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief " to " Hall Pass " and to the movie my company just released the score " Bereavement "... now she has many more movies/television credits... I am trying to get an interview for her in involvement with Bereavement as with many of the cast and crew. Shhhh don't tell my wife or Alexandria my secret crushin' love for her... she might find me to be a little stalk-ish... I am like 20 years older than her.

Knock, Knock...
I am so getting one of these from Neatorama: "HOT ITEM" the "TENTACLE DOORSTOP" I saw it and wanted it ASAP just cause it is really cool. This place has a ton of items from creepy to cute and not to mention I found out that my Superman post the other day... they sell the T-Shirts.

Ninja Boy, Kicks Kid Zombies!
It has been a rough week, my wife's crazy schedule... well crazy for me because I am a total morning person and she has been working until 2am. I used to get up at 4am on a daily basis, now I am going to sleep at that time so I have a bit out of my sleeping... which could explain my "ghost postin". I have been making up the posts on Sundays for the last few weeks and have barely checked into anything...
