PSYCHO - SHOWER SCENE!

According to the book “Psycho in the Shower: The History of Cinema’s Most Famous Scene,” author Philip Skerry says that Hitchcock said in an interview that the movie’s careful plot and character development plodded along “to lead an audience completely up the garden path. They [viewers] thought the story was about a girl who stole $40,000. This was deliberate."

The scene was a rousing success at the box office, but caused trouble for American households. An angry father once sent Hitchcock a letter saying that his daughter had refused to take a bath after seeing the 1955 movie, "Diabolique," and after seeing "Psycho," defied his orders to shower. Hitchcock replied to the man with a letter saying, "Send her to the dry cleaners," according to IMDb.

Janet Leigh said that upon seeing the shower scene so many times, she has interpreted it as a baptism of sorts. "There's a light, almost an ethereal light, a heavenly light on Marion," she told the New York Times in a 1995 interview. "It was like she was being purified. Cleansed. The water -- it was like she was being baptized. She was cleaning not only her body but also the inner dirt. And this made the attack even more horrible."

"I stopped taking showers and I take baths, only baths," she told the Times. She said then that even staying at a friend's house or in a hotel was unsettling to her. "I make sure the doors and windows of the house are locked," she said, "and I leave the bathroom door open and shower curtain open. I'm always facing the door, watching, no matter where the shower head is."

Hitchcock enlisted composer Bernard Herrmann to write the film's score, but originally wanted the shower scene to be without music. Herrmann defied him and once he heard the piercing strings and screeching climax, Hitchcock gladly accepted it. He also nearly doubled Herrmann's pay. David Raksin, a colleague of the composer, is quoted as saying: "Remarkable composer that he was, [Herrmann] was that despite a rudimentary sense of melody, which he sought to remedy by repeating short phrases in sequences -- meaning that he would state a brief musical phrase and then repeat it, and repeat it again and again in other positions."  The shower scene's music was voted in 2009 as "scariest movie theme of all time" in a PRS for Music survey. It beat the theme from "The Omen".

PSYCHO III [1986]... Mother is off her Rocker!

Psycho III is a 1986 American psychological horror film. It is the second sequel to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and the third film in the Psycho series. The film stars Anthony Perkins (who also directed the film), Diana Scarwid, Jeff Fahey and Roberta Maxwell. The screenplay is written by Charles Edward Pogue. The original electronic music score is composed and performed by Carter Burwell in one of his earliest projects. The film was a financial failure, becoming the lowest grossing film in the Psycho series. It was followed by the TV movie, Psycho IV: The Beginning.

The film takes place one month after the events of Psycho II, Norman Bates is still running the Bates Motel with the corpse of Mrs. Spool still sitting up in the house. A suicidal nun, whom Norman falls in love with, comes to the motel along with a drifter named Duane Duke and a reporter who is trying to solve the mysterious disappearance of Emma Spool.

TRIVIA:
-------------------------------------------------------------
- Anthony Perkins' directorial debut.
- The lowest grossing film in the Psycho film series, with $14,481,606 in worldwide box office returns.
- During filming of this movie, Anthony Perkins was diagnosed as HIV-positive when he went to a clinic for routine medical examination.
- Anthony Perkins originally suggested the film be shot in black and white as a homage to the original 1960 Hitchcock film but Universal opposed it.
- Despite this being Anthony Perkins directorial debut, the cast and crew have stated that they enjoyed working with him throughout the production.

We all go a little mad sometimes and sometimes we direct.

PSYCHO II [1983] and a little Back Story!

In Psycho II, the first sequel to the original film, Bates is released from the institution 22 years after his arrest, seemingly cured, and he meets Mary Loomis — Marion Crane's niece — with whom he falls in love. However, a series of mysterious murders occurs, as well as strange appearances and messages from "Mother", and Bates slowly loses his grip on sanity. The mysterious appearances and messages turn out to be a plot by Lila Crane to drive him insane again in order to get him recommitted. The actual murders turn out to be the work of his aunt — Norma's sister, Emma Spool — who shares the family's history of mental illness and claims to be Norman's real mother. Before Bates discovers this, however, Mary Loomis is shot dead by the police during a confrontation with Bates, and Spool murders Lila. When Spool tells Bates that she is his mother, he kills her and embalms her body while assuming the "Mother" personality once again.

Osgood Robert "Oz" Perkins II (born February 2, 1974) is an American actor and director. Perkins' first acting role was in 1983's Psycho II, in which he briefly appeared as the twelve-year-old version of the Norman Bates character his father had portrayed. Since then, he has appeared in the 1993 film [adaptation of the play] Six Degrees of Separation, the 2001 movie Legally Blonde as, "Dorky David," and he appeared in theatrical productions including Not Another Teen Movie and Secretary, and on episodes of Alias and other television shows. He also has a brief role in the 2009 film Star Trek as a Starfleet Academy trainee. In the award winning indie film La Cucina he plays Chris, opposite Leisha Hailey.

He was born in New York City, New York, the elder son of the actor Anthony Perkins and the photographer and actress Berry Berenson, who was killed in the September 11 attacks. He also is the brother of musician Elvis Perkins, a grandson of the stage actor Osgood Perkins, a nephew of the actress Marisa Berenson, and a great-grandson of the fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli, who was a great-niece of Giovanni Schiaparelli, the Italian astronomer. [source: Wikipedia]

Born Berinthia Berenson in New York in 1948, Berenson was a noted photographer and actress and was the sister of model-turned-actress Marisa Berenson (of "Barry Lyndon" fame). Berenson met her husband, actor and star of Alfred Hitchcock's original version of Psycho (1960), Anthony Perkins on the set of his film Play It As It Lays (1972) and married him in 1973. The couple raised 2 sons and remained married until Perkins' death of an AIDS-related illness in 1992. Listed on the flight manifest as Berinthia Perkins, Berenson was killed aboard the hijacked American Airlines Flight 11, which was deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center's North Tower on September 11, 2001 and was one of over 3,000 souls lost on this date. She was survived by her adult sons, artist Elvis Perkins and actor Oz Perkins. [source: imdb]

This a story behind the story that I found interesting... now I am not sure on all the facts, because I am using the internet for all the sources. I thought this was some interesting connections to Mother to Father to Son to Mother... maybe you didn't know either?

SEXY ALFRED HITCHCOCK and PSYCHO [1960]!

Psycho is a 1960 American psychological thriller-horror film directed by Alfred Hitchcock starring Anthony Perkins, Vera Miles, John Gavin, and Janet Leigh. The screenplay is by Joseph Stefano, based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch loosely inspired by the crimes of Wisconsin murderer and grave robber Ed Gein.

The film centers on the encounter between a secretary, Marion Crane (Leigh), who ends up at a secluded motel after embezzling money from her employer, and the motel's disturbed owner-manager, Norman Bates (Perkins), and its aftermath. When originally made, the film was seen as a departure from Hitchcock's previous film North by Northwest, having been filmed on a low budget, with a television crew and in black and white. Psycho initially received mixed reviews, but outstanding box office returns prompted reconsideration which led to overwhelming critical acclaim and four Academy Award nominations, including Best Supporting Actress for Leigh and Best Director for Hitchcock.

It is now considered one of Hitchcock's best films and praised as a work of cinematic art by international film critics and film scholars. Ranked among the greatest films of all time, it set a new level of acceptability for violence, deviant behavior and sexuality in American films, and is widely considered to be the earliest example of the slasher film genre. After Hitchcock's death in 1980, Universal Studios began producing follow-ups: three sequels, a remake, a television film spin-off, and a TV series.

I recently got this film "Psycho" on Blu-ray and forgot how much I enjoyed it, the creepy innocent monster.. you know the story I am sure. I thought about all the sexual tension between the characters, thinking if that were gone what you might be left with? Would have been the same film, just a guy killing strangers in the hotel "Bates", would we still be talking about this today... Yes, Hitchcock was a master at seeing the evil in the innocent eyes of the actors. If you are wondering where Norman is, look behind the counter as he gets your key ready for you stay, enjoy the night!

Terminator Salvation (2009) - WELCOME TO TERMINATOR WEEK!

Terminator Salvation is the fourth installment of the Terminator film series, made by The Halcyon Company and again distributed by Warner and Columbia, and with an original release on May 21, 2009. It was written by John D. Brancato, Michael Ferris, Paul Haggis, Shawn Ryan, Jonathan Nolan, and Anthony E. Zuiker, directed by McG, and stars Christian Bale as John Connor.[3] After Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust, John struggles to become the leader of humanity that's he is destined to become, but in this future, Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington, who was personally recommended by James Cameron) has somehow altered it, and the T-800 (Roland Kickinger with CG-rendered facial likeness of Arnold Schwarzenegger) is coming online sooner than expected. The film also involves Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin) and how he became the man he was in the first film.

John Connor: [to Marcus] You and me, we've been at war since before either of us even existed. You tried killing my mother, Sarah Connor. You killed my father, Kyle Reese. You will not kill me.
