Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man: A self-described genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist with an electromechanical suit of armor of his own invention. Downey was cast as part of his four-picture deal with Marvel Studios, which includes Iron Man 2 and The Avengers. Downey said that he initially pushed Whedon to make Stark the lead: "Well, I said, 'I need to be in the opening sequence. I don't know what you're thinking, but Tony needs to drive this thing.' He was like, 'Okay, let's try that.'
We tried it and it didn't work, because this is a different sort of thing, the story and the idea and the theme is the theme, and everybody is just an arm of the octopus." About the character's evolution from previous films, Downey said, "In Iron Man, which was an origin story, he was his own epiphany and redemption of sorts. Iron Man 2 is all about not being an island, dealing with legacy issues and making space for others. . . In The Avengers, he's throwing it down with the others".

I like Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man! And enjoyed all of the movies, including The Avengers :D
ReplyDeleteLoved Iron Man and Robert Downey Jr is a wonderful actor, I liked him before he did Iron Man, something about being a screwed up bad boy, hahaha. I did a movie review of Iron Man, do check out my blog at www.angiecreativeink.com/blog. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteWe get him in two more Avengers now and then that's probably it...
ReplyDeleteI loved him in the first two, the third one was utter self-indulgent crap (just my two-cents worth)
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of the comics, of Iron Man, the Avengers, Thor. The Incredible Hulk, yes, but that was back during the days of Lou Ferrigno and Bill Bixby.
ReplyDeleteThen Iron Man appeared and life has never been the same.
And Thanks for hosting A to Z this year!!
DeleteDowney has the star power to force things like that, but he's humble enough to know what works and what doesn't what a guy.
ReplyDeleteI've never been a huge fan of RDJ, but I love his Tony Start/Iron Man as well as his Sherlock Holmes.
ReplyDeleteHe is perfect as Iron Man.
ReplyDeleteRobert Downey, Jr. IS Tony Stark, which is why, though Iron Man's armor was hardly in the 3rd, the movie still worked. If he is not Iron Man in a movie, I will not watch it. Nuff Said.
ReplyDeleteI love Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr is perfect for the role.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of those rare instances when the absolutely perfect actor was cast. :)
ReplyDeleteYou've got to appreciate good casting. All things work together, to make a better film.

If it weren't for Robert Downey Jr, I never would have seen any of the new comic book reboots. Can't wait for the next Avengers movie! ( I saw the 1st one in IMAX 3D and it was WOW!)
ReplyDeleteHave always enjoyed RDJ...and Tony Stark/Iron Man is my favorite of his roles. I guess I need to see the Avengers. It's just that the boys have...and I'm kinda buried to my eyeballs in this A-Z thing. Haven't even had time to visit all my favorite people everyday...

I want all of Tony Stark's gadgets and cool holographic technology. I'm a HUGE Avengers fan. Ironman is tied for first with Thor for my fave.
ReplyDeleteIron man has been my favourite since I was 11 years old. I will never quit him.

I'm not sure anyone else could have absorbed this character the way RDjr did. I'm just so glad that he is doing better as a person and an actor and could make this character kiss ass.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Stark tried to make the Avenger's movie his, we still call it Loki 2 and Thor 2 is Loki 3. :)

I love Robert Downey Jnr-I think he's perfect to play Iron Man! Most arrogant characters just annoy me but Iron Man is so funny that I just can't help liking him. He's shown his softer side occasionally too. I liked his heroic actions at the end of the Avengers.
