So if they decide to make remakes, please don't touch this one... I love the 1980's Robin Williams version, it holds a weird special place in my heart.
I am about 85% better... I am so behind. -Jeremy [Retro-Zombie]
VERY WEIRD! My husband and I just TRIED to watch that movie the other day on some HBO channel. Neither of us remembered it being so weird or blah back in 1980. I realize that the use of ugly people and drab colors was part of the whole ambiance, but somehow the mumbling and awkwardness of the cartoon didn't translate well in this film. I LOVED the cartoon, but you can keep the movie all to yourself. Maybe the 3D CG version will be better, but probably not. It's not really OUR Popeye anymore is it?
Feel better! I've been hoping the Robin Williams version would show up on Netflix so I can share the movie with my kids. I never got it on DVD, though I had it on VHS. Darn technology. I used to be able to do a perfect Shelley Duvall/Olive Oyl impersonation. Scary.
They should just stop doing remakes all together. I do agree that some movies need to be remade into a better version since the original sucked enough as it is. Classic movies like Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th and Children of the Corn shouldn't of ever been touched.
Oh man I remember that live action Popeye from way back in the day. :D
ReplyDeleteGreat clip! Hope you keep feeling better!
